It comes but once a year, and we always look forward to it. Prom season is here in all it’s glory… The taffeta, the tulle, the pastel colors…. We love it all! Even if you don’t have a prom in your future, it is always fun to look at beautiful formal wear, and who knows, you can always create an event fit for a princess! Street-style and Vintage Swag at SXSW!

After months of pining away in the almost-freezing, we got the chance to go down to South By Southwest in Austin, Texas this year! Aside from the beautiful music spilling from every corner of the city, we found Austin (in SXSW mode) to be one of the most stylish places we’ve ever visited. With beautiful weather all week, the options for style were endless. In addition, we were thrilled to see so many people exploring vintage options!

Here’s some of our favorite looks we found out on the street at SXSW this year. Fashionable ladies abound, as usual at an international music festival, but we were also excited to see so many men with individual refined style! Lookin’ good, guys!

Maxi dresses and skirts were a trend everywhere we looked. We especially like how this gal "toughened up" the flowing look with those combat boots!

Burnt-orange shorts and a vintage hawaiian shirt to match the warm southern air. Surprisingly (and awesomely), florals were quite common at SXSW.

We were thrilled to see suspenders making a bit of a comeback too! With a vintage Champion tank and classic "greaser" hairstyle, this was one of our favorite looks.

This lime-colored maxi-dress caught our eye from accross a crowded room. You might say it was love at first sight? The little pop of contrast from the violet shoes is perfection.

The abstract pattern peeking out from beneath his motorcycle jacket is a lovely touch.

Meet our Neighbors: The Aurora Shoe Company

Upstate New York is chuck-full of wonderful handmade products (as seen in our last post), delicious restaurants, and unique local businesses. We are so lucky to be surrounded by this community of creativity. It continually inspires us as well as compliment our own lovely store. Therefore, we have decided to start a series to feature businesses we admire in Upstate New York.

The Aurora Shoe Company, located in lovely scenic Aurora, New York, is a small business that we have always loved. Their line of leather goods are simply the best. All their products use American made materials, and are assembled by hand in their studio in Aurora. These quality hand crafted shoes are not only beautiful, but truly represent the history of fine manufacturing in Upstate New York.

This past week our businesses collaborated on a photo shoot featuring the Aurora Shoe Company shoes and Petrune spring looks. Here are some of our favorite looks from the shoot. Holy Handmade, Batman!

We try to be “Locavores” in every way possible. Keeping cultural and economic power within a community instead of frequenting the big-box stores is an amazing thing!

Lately, we’ve been searching out some of our favorite local artisans to bring you beautiful products made right here in upstate New York. One of out favorite local lines, One Swell Gal, flies off the shelves every time we put it out! Handmade products like hers have such an innate personal charm! Here are some other handmade accessories we are carrying right now in the store. Enjoy .

These two necklaces are from Trumansburg artist Carissa Mann Parlato. Her line, C (Star) Studio, has beautiful artisan statement jewelry.

This necklace is by one of our favorite customers and artists, Cady Fontana. Each bird charm is totally handmade, unique, and adorable.

Petrune Enjoys Chili Fest, is Spicy!

We feel that out of all the big “Commons Food Fest” extravaganzas, Chili Fest is the best. You can wear cozy furs and winter coats, everyone is gettin’ reeeal close for body warmth, and, of course, the food! If Petrune were a food, we would be spicy chili (no beans) and a sliver of light, buttery cornbread. Chili is classic, warm, comforting, and has a wonderful edge that keeps you on your toes.

This year’s Chili Fest was a blast, as always. With awesome street style and delicious chili at every turn, what more could we possibly want?

It’s the Year of the Dragon, Window Agrees!

With the passing of Chinese New Year, it is officially the Year of the Dragon! Our window is decked out to match, complete with a genuine Hong-Kong made dragon-dancer. Our dragon dancer, made for 3 people, is truly a piece of art, and we’re so excited to share it!

The year of the Dragon signifies a time of good luck, and plentiful wheat and poultry. Thus, we at Petrune hope your year is filled with good fortune and good food!

An Ode to Wool and Woolly Things

There’s no better companion during the winter months than a quality wool coat, or a luxurious cashmere sweater. Here, Alex and Angelina photograph several wool pieces that could become a staple of your winter wardrobe.

Starting with an essential element to any woman’s wardrobe, the gigantic cozy sweater. It doubles as a blanket for lazy evenings on the couch, but you can also dress it up with a belt and boots for a night out! This one is a wool blend, for added comfort.

Halfway between your favorite blazer and your favorite flannel button-up, this brightly-colored wool jacket is an easy (and warm!) way to spice up jeans and a t-shirt.

This shirt is a great transitional piece, ideal both for winter nights under a coat, and summer nights in front of a campfire. It’s draping is super-flattering on everyone, as are the colors.

There is, of course, a more luxurious side to wool. Get your Gatsby on in this wool/angora blend double breasted coat… and maybe a brightly colored beret to modernize the look?

A shirt for a mountain man. Though it was a balmy 31 degrees when we were out taking photos, Alex professed that he was getting a little warm in this thick-knit fawn colored shirt. Truly a companion for the most bitter colds.

A brightly colored sweater that hits near your natural waist is a valuable part of any wardrobe. This red one with a detailed neckline is great because works when worn with either a skirt or pants!

Lastly, this (heavy as all get-out) olive wool military coat. It’s already charmed a few folks when we posted it on our Facebook recently, and we can’t blame them!
