Peggy Guggenheim

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Muse of the month: Peggy Guggenheim, patron of the arts, trend setter, and avid collector of paintings, sculpture, jewelry and men. Her penchant for hanging jewelry on the wall inspired our decorator, Darrell P. to make a Peggy G. wall with some of our more sculptural pieces. Peggy’s jewelry was designed by artists like Alexander Calder and Juan Miro. We hung Victorian era Iroquois bead work, a Chinese embroidered necklace, and a group of beaded handbags dating from 1920′s – 1950′s.

Stairway

Three months have passed and we are finally home at 126 East State Street. The store is freshly painted and scrubbed, and we are continuing to bring in tons of fantastic new vintage clothing. We couldn’t have done it without the help of Petrune’s fabulous sales staff, Jennifer, Lucy, Libby and Emily. Also the terrific, fast and efficient construction team of JBM Construction, and the interior design wizard, Darrel P. Thank you all for your hard work.

Update

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

It’s coming together. We hope to be open by January 15, at the latest. The space is undergoing finishing touches, painting, cleaning, and all the rest.

Here’s a picture of the second floor men’s department, as it looks now, freshly painted.  I can’t wait to start filling it with clothes.

Check out the cool old mosaic tile we found under the carpeting. This was from when the space (126 East State Street) was a pharmacy, from the turn of the century until the 1970′s.  There’s still lots of scrubbing to get the old glue off, but we think it will be worth it.

Floors

We did a ton of washing up today. Here’s Emily getting the clothing racks ready.
